With Veterans’ Group Life Insurance (VGLI), life insurance coverage may be kept after leaving the military as long as premiums are paid. The amount of term life insurance benefits is based on how much SGLI coverage the service member had when they left the military. Coverage may also be increased by $25,000 every 5 years, up to $500,000, until 60 years of age.
